Former Miss India Alankrita Sahai Defines Beauty With A Purpose

Power Change Maker Alankrita Sahai is an Indian model-turned-actor and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned as Miss India Earth 2014. She is the first Indian to win 7 titles at the Miss Earth pageant held in the Philippines.

In 2018, she made her acting debut with the Netflix romantic comedy film called Love per Square Foot. The same year, she also played the role of Alisha in the film Namaste England. She is also a TEDx Speaker. She has been on India’s Most Desired list for 4 years consecutively.

She has been a part of more than 30 Television Commercials and associated with more than 200 leading brands. She is also associated with various organizations for her humanitarian work.

Women Fitness team catches up with her on her profession, fitness, diet, beauty in a candid conversation!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are first Indian to win 7 titles at the Miss Earth pageant held in the Philippines. What motivated you to give beauty pageants a shot?

Ms. Alankrita Sahai:

It wasn’t my dream but it came to be true. It was my best friend who enrolled me and I had no clue about it. She just believed in me and thought I could do something about my hidden talents and be discovered. So that’s how it happened. And then my family pushed me forward

You recently ventured into acting and made your debut on Netflix, Tell us how was your experience while working on that film also do you feel that today OTT platforms are the next big thing

Ms. Alankrita Sahai:

Yes absolutely OTT platforms are the next big thing. It was a fantastic experience working on set it was no less than any other big-budget film. It was surreal and I worked with the best people, to begin with. My first film was super successful and I learned so much from the people on set. Today our film is the top ten films on any OTT platform ever.

What are your thoughts on “Beauty with a purpose”?

Ms. Alankrita Sahai:

Beauty comes with a lot of responsibility too. It’s a gift rather than a curse. You should embrace your powers and use them for the good of people always. I always love to help people even before the title was given to me. It’s I guess in my blood thanks to my grandparents and parents always trying to look out for others more than themselves. So yes I believe one must know beauty first comes from within and that’s what’s beautiful about a human being their heart more than their face.

Ms. Alankrita Sahai:

I have weights and mats at home. So I do yoga and a lot of cardio mixed with weight training. I also started to cycle recently again. Feels great. I do maintain a balanced diet of certain days then I totally binge for a day. Lots of water vitamin C and no sugar. 

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Share with us “What you eat in a day” from breakfast to dinner? Also, do you follow any particular diet

Ms. Alankrita Sahai:

Start with a hot cup of lemon honey water, green tea, ginger water, and vitamin C. I can’t eat immediately after waking up. Have eggs with toast Fruits. Or I jump straight to lunch if I wake up late or lazy. Daal rice meat veggies I have during lunch with raita. Then I have a smoothie in the evening. At night it’s again a small portion of chicken, daal rice, soup, pasta or salad. This is strictly for now. Usually, I am way more strict and it’s no carbs post 8 high protein and lots of fruits and veggies. I am not dieting just avoiding sugar.

Ms. Alankrita Sahai:

Yes, please don’t forget who you are in the rat race and don’t give up easily, people will try to bring you down but stay focused on yourself, don’t let yourself becomes a people’s pleaser. Be friendly be kind be generous but don’t let them overstep there’s a difference. Stand your ground. You are worth the hustle and bustle. And work hard and be disciplined. Train ur mind and rest will fall in place.

Lastly, share any 5 tips to ace a photoshoot for upcoming models

Ms. Alankrita Sahai:

Wear clothes you are comfortable in to begin with . Skin and hair care is a must and proper sleep before a shoot . Makeup brushes need to be clean and makeup needs to be minimal depending on the shoot and requirements obviously Always carry your own heels on set black silver golden beige and nude as backup .Your intimate clothing needs to be apt for the clothes you wear not uncomfortable or shabby and showing through your outfits Be confident and not compare yourself to your counterparts . Tilt ur head at Times downwards not always looking too high above the cameras focus . Again depends on angles And don’t get stuck with just one profile try and experiment with the other side of your face too . Trust me helps build that confidence even more !

5 tips to beat stress. How do you strike work/life balance?

Ms.Alankrita Sahai:

Workout, meet your friend’s travel (not right now )read, pray I love to dance and sing or listen to music , meditate and write your diary Just don’t do anything for some time and take a break for a few hours and relax your mind and don’t fret maybe even take a nap.

I have been working for a really long time now. So I strike my balance on some days by just being on my own and talking to my self or to my friends about life and other things. It’s important to have a good support system to fall back on. I meditate a lot. I seek advice and also have a mind of my own to conquer various obstacles.

I love working but I also enjoy being at home or meeting people. It’s I guess all about doing what makes you happy and who makes you happy. You just got to be positive and grateful at the end of the day. There are days I’m stressed and negative but I realize this is temporary and there is a solution waiting for me so why am I running away and ruining today I face it even if I sleep with tears or a smile I stand my ground and face it. I don’t give up easily hence it’s been easy for me to find ways to be happy even when I’m sad.

Train your mind and wire your brain in such a way that as an individual you know the universe is listening to you. I believe in praying and praying a lot and manifestations. That’s the best stress buster for me.

Everyone has a different body We all function differently and have different lifestyles. Don’t hate yourself but rather embrace yourself, talk to yourself kindly than always look in the mirror and hate what you got. Once you change the way you talk to yourself and look at yourself everything will change . 

Have a healthy life, which doesn’t mean depriving yourself but a balanced life. Enjoy the perks of everything but do get regular check-ups done. It’s important to use this time to Nourish yourself. Eat pray and love they say. Eat food that your body can digest easily. Keep your gut clean most important. Avoid sugar and excess salt. Have more nutritious food and also have a cheat day for urself but Don’t forget to sweat!
