Women Fitness President, Ms. Namita Nayyar catches up with Apeksha Porwal on movies, her acting journey and fitness.

Namita Nayyar:

Apeksha you have been doing pageants, acting and more, tell us how did your journey begin?

Apeksha Porwal

Miss India was always a childhood dream, whereas acting was a discovery along the way. I’ve been doing pageants since my teens, and first won Miss Teen India International 2009 and represented India at Chicago. Post that, being very academically driven, I went back to my studies and graduated in Economics honours. I was one of the winners of Miss India in 2017. Having always been curious about acting, I signed up for acting workshops and then did a diploma programme in method acting. I also did theatre before bagging my first role as Koyal in the 2020 release Undekhi.

Namita Nayyar:

Women Fitness India talks about celebrity diets and fitness regime, do you follow any special diet? What is your morning diet ritual?

Apeksha Porwal

I follow a vegan diet and believe in moderation. I looove my desserts and cheat more than once a week, and so believe in working out a little extra instead of completely giving up on the things I love. My morning starts with a cup of black coffee followed by a plant-based protein shake before gym..

Namita Nayyar:

What is your fitness regime? Are you cardio or a weight lifting person?

Apeksha Porwal

I weight train thrice a week and practice martial arts twice a week. Sometimes when I’m between shoots, I’ll switch up the martial arts for cardio. I love to mix it up, as long as it goes along with my overall fitness goals.

Namita Nayyar:

What are your current projects you are working on? How do you prep yourself for a particular role?

Apeksha Porwal

I just had the release of the second season of my international English-Arabic show Slave Market

, which is running successfully in the Middle-East. I have another upcoming release that I have finished shooting for which should be announced soon. One of the most exciting parts for me is prepping for the role, bringing a character to life from paper to a living-breathing being. It’s usually working on it inside out – from characteristics to physicality and workshopping with the director to understand his vision. Natural instincts along with preparation are as important while performing a scene.

Namita Nayyar:

Lastly, your thoughts on Women Fitness India Magazine? Your message for our readers?

Apeksha Porwal

I think it’s wonderful that we have a magazine dedicated to fitness. I always urge people to work out – whether that’s a run, a walk, lifting weights, yoga, pilates, dance, whatever it is that may suit you, but that little time that you focus on fitness, will not only help your physical health, but also mental health!
