Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Your dream and desire to be a singer started at the age of 5 with singing notes from “Gurubani”, now that you look back on how you would describe your journey as, and who has been your biggest supporter and motivation in this journey.

Ms. Asees Kaur:

I started singing Gurbani at the age of 5 and I really feel blessed to start my journey like this because I still feel because all the soulfulness that you hear in my voice is due to the hours that I’ve put in singing Gurbani. It really has a great impact on my singing style. My journey has been pretty amazing. I got to try different genres of music, romantic, club numbers, party numbers etc.

So, I really feel blessed that I got to show my versatility. My family has been my biggest supporter from day one and it was my father who wanted me to sing Gurbani and that’s how my love for music started.  He and my whole family are my biggest supporters. I’m deeply inspired by Madam Noor Jehan ji and Arijit Singh. Both of them have been an inspiration. Especially I get really motivated listening to Arijit Singh, his journey, and the way he sings, it always touches my heart.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Being a playback singer in Bollywood you have sung a few of the most popular hits. Share your favorite experience and also the song that is closest to your heart.

Ms. Asees Kaur:

There have been a lot of songs which are close to my heart, so picking one is difficult. But one experience which is really special is working with Mithoon sir on ‘Intezar’.  It was my first song with him and the way he inspired me to sing the song, the way he explained the melody and the expressions he is looking for in the song, was something that really touched my heart. It was a great learning experience for me. I really enjoyed that session and it’ll remain very close to my heart always.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have been nominated for various awards and have won a number of accolades, how did you feel when you won your first award as an upcoming female vocalist?

Ms. Asees Kaur:

I got my first award as an upcoming female vocalist for ‘Bolna’ andit was a dream come true. Because when I used to live in Panipat, I always dreamt of doing playback singing for films. So, getting an award for the same was surreal as it was a dream that I saw in my childhood. When I think about it, I still get goosebumps as ‘Bolna’ has already been special as it is with Arijit Singh. I really got a lot of love for that song.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Women Fitness India talks about celebrity diets and fitness routines, do you follow any particular diet? Your favorite cuisine. Any foods you avoid to take care of your throat and voice?

Ms. Asees Kaur:

I really feel that celebrity diets are very popular, but I don’t follow a particular diet. Whenever I have a specific weight goal in my mind, I try to change my diet accordingly. Something I follow at times is intermittent fasting. It really works for me, but you have to be really careful about it. My favorite cuisine would be Paani Puri. I really enjoy eating street food whether it is Tikki or Momos. I don’t avoid any kind of food especially to take care of my throat and voice. I feel you can train your voice accordingly and your throat. I eat all the achars and gol gappas and drink cold water and I hardly feel any difference in my throat. So, I’m pretty okay with that.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What comprises your fitness regime? How many times do you train during a week? Any sport you enjoy watching and playing?

Ms. Asees Kaur

My fitness regime consists of Yoga and a mix of Cardio and sometimes Weight training. I really get bored if I keep on doing only one form of exercise, so I always keep on switching. And I try to train at least four times a week. I’m a very lazy person, so I can’t play any of the sports, but sometimes I just watch Cricket to change the feel of the day.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What are your upcoming future plans and projects? One singer you would love to work with both in India and internationally?

Ms. Asees Kaur:

A lot of songs are coming. But there’s one song that is releasing soon on Vyrl Originals. We’ve Rubina and Paras in the video alongside me. So yeah, that’s one song I’m really looking forward to and I really hope it gets a lot of love as my other film songs have received.

In India, it has to be Arijit Singh, no matter how many songs I sing with him, there always is the desire to work with him. There’s also Mithoon and Amit Trivedi, I love both of them. Internationally it has to be Taylor Swift. I love her style. It’s magical.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How would you define music for yourself? How far has music played a vital role in keeping up with your mental health?

Ms. Asees Kaur:

Music is something very close to my heart. I really can’t imagine my life without music. It’d be very boring. I think music for me has a very spiritual connection. I feel at peace whenever I sing whether in the studio or singing live on stage for the audience. It is very important to keep me sane, happy and positive. So, music plays a very important role in my life. It’s like “Agar music nahi hai to mai nahin hun”.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Message you would like to share for Women Fitness India readers, on why it’s important for women today to prioritize mental and physical health.

Ms. Asees Kaur:

I feel it is very important to take care of your physical and mental health. Physical is important because if you’re physically fit it automatically brings a lot of confidence. You’re already in a positive and happy mood. Please try to work out for at least thrice a week for 30 minutes each day. Along with physical health, mental health is very important. Because if you’re mentally happy and positive, it definitely brings a lot of change in your vibe. So, you always attract more positive things and happy things in your life. Always speak if there’s any issue which is disturbing you mentally. Please bring it up and discuss it with anyone in your life who you feel can solve it or understand your point of view. Be open for a discussion and take care of yourself.
