Women Fitness India got the wonderful opportunity to join the stunning VJ turned reality TV Star, Benafsha Soonawalla, for a interesting conversation.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You started off as a model and then took up as a VJ on national youth channel, despite being a degree holder in BMS. Walk us through your journey and how you decided to take this unconventional career choice?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

I was always passionate about every kind of performing art. Dancing, singing, acting, even walking the ramp. I didn’t really know if I’d make that my career but I enjoyed it to the fullest in school, college etc. I would model here and there for the fun of it, but when I was in my 13th grade, I got a call for a reality show called roadies, to go in as a wildcard. All I had to do was send an introduction video and I wasn’t sure about the show since I had exams approaching. I went for it anyway and it turned out to be a really fun experience. I came back and gave my exams and did really well in them. I never let my work get in the middle of my studies, I always did well even if I had to shoot all day and come back and study all night going into the morning. It was all good, and honestly even kind of fun to challenge myself like that. Little did I know that immediately after, mtv would hand me an opportunity to become an official VJ with them. That’s how my journey started. Ever since there has been no looking back, I went on to host several shows on tv, corporate events, did another reality, did a few digital ads, walked in fashion weeks and very recently even started my own YouTube channel. I had to move on from my mtv contract, and they weren’t too happy about it. In this industry, I want to explore as much as I can and hence I had to make the choice but the love is always there. In fact, I have a flight in a few hours to go host an mtv show. Hahah 😀

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How important it is for you to stay fit? Fitness and beauty go hand in hand how has it helped to present the best in you?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

I will be honest. I’m blessed with great genes. Touchwood. I eat everything, but I also believe in not taking the luck of the genes for granted and work out whenever I can. I don’t believe in dieting because I cannot live without eating any and everything that I want to and people who know me well will tell you the same. I love my gym, my trainer Prashant and I absolutely love lifting. I don’t do much of cardio but the mean machines are my go-to. I love me a little bit of muscle and abs. I consider myself lucky to achieve them as well. Fitness also keeps you mentally happy. Working out is a great way of removing your energy in the right place.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

One workout type that you swear by?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

I just can’t select. I’d say working legs, arms and abs are my hot favourite. I have a different way of working out. When I go to the gym, I balance legs, arms, and abs in the same day. Little of everything. It satisfies me and makes me feel good about myself In case I haven’t found the time to be regular. My trainer makes sure I have a tough time to make up for the lost time if I’ve skipped even a day or two, And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Eating healthy is an integral part of living a fit lifestyle. What is the first thing that you get your day rolling with? How do you balance your meals to stay healthy and physically fit? Enlist your 5 favorite foods you would fall for any time?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

As I said, I don’t believe in dieting and keeping a control over my food. But I do believe in eating healthy and the right amount at the right time. I include a lot of carbs and protein. I think that is super essential.

Favourite foods have to be – Rice, sabzi roti, chicken, yoghurt and dessert. Hehe.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How do you maintain your workout and diet regime when you traveling? Especially when you were in the Bigg Boss house, how did you manage your workout and diet?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

I tried working out there but obviously, that didn’t ‘work out’. Pun Intended. Honestly, I ate a lot there and while everyone else was losing weight I had put on a lot of cute weight, but I managed to come out and work all of it out. When I travel I believe in eating and trying out different tastes of different places. But as I mentioned earlier, I eat in the right amounts.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

We truly believe that every body is beautiful, but often people face body shamming. Have you ever faced Skinny Shaming?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

Yes body shaming is something that happens quite a bit. As for me, I mostly get complimented and girls going “I want your body” remarks. I make sure I’m not unhealthy skinny, just fit and healthy, in a way that looks it too. So lucky for me, no I don’t face that.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you follow any particular diet? And how often do you cheat on your meals?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

I don’t diet, so I never have the pressure of cheating on my meals. I only believe in working out and thanking God and my parents for the rest of nature’s blessing. Hahah.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

With a massive following of over 697k followers on your Instagram account @benafshasoonawalla, what according to you are the best and worst things about these social media platforms?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

People have a chance to voice their opinion on topics that matter. Some of us get together and fight for a wrongdoing and help to get a person to the justice that they deserve. That according to me is a lovely thing. On the other hand, social media has its drawbacks, people get addicted and make it a big part of their lives, validation from social media is what a lot of people seek. It’s tragic, and very unnecessary according to me.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Last what message would you like to give to our viewers on how important you think it is to be fit in today world?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

Find what you like best. When it comes to fitness, one should never force themselves to do something just to get the body that they want. Whether you like Pilates, Zumba training, yoga, jogging in a park, dancing, or simply working out in a gym, pick the one that you’re most comfortable with and that you enjoy and go for it. That way it doesn’t get stressful and you won’t want to skip days. Working out becomes fun and happy.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tips for coping with pressures of being a celebrity?

Ms. Benafsha Soonawalla:

There are drawbacks and disadvantages everywhere, not just in the industry. All you have to do is develop a thick skin, and be strong every step of the way and everything will look like a piece of cake or a small puddle to cross.
