Bianca Louzado: Celebrity Make-up Artist Decodes Her Success Story

A double major in chemistry and food technology, Bianca Louzado initially wanted to set up a wellness center. Soon, she realized she wanted to try different things. She went on to become a model, a VJ, and even a flight attendant.

Her father played an instrumental role in her becoming a makeup artist. “My late father asked me, “You love makeup so much, why you don’t look at that segment?” Thus, began Bianca’s journey of honing her makeup skills. Over time, she learned from over 50 renowned artists, including Pati Dubroff, Mario Dedivanovic, Alex Box, Bobbi Brown, and many others.

Today, her clientele includes names like Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sania Mirza.

Women Fitness catches up with renowned make-up artist and founder of CODE Beauty, Bianca Louzado, as she walks us through her journey.

Namita Nayyar:

It must not have been an easy task to create a special place for you in the beauty world. Share input that sets you apart in the world of beauty and make-up.

Bianca Louzado:

Not many make-up artists had adopted the no-make-up makeup look trend on a bride.

I started using nude lipsticks on brides in 2010 when everyone would say “Why does Bianca use nude lip colours on a bride, who uses nude lipsticks on a bride?! Hence being able to change the mindset that a bride has to wear only red lips or bright coloured lipsticks and look brighter than her skin tone is something that I knew I had to change.

What sets me apart is that I do not have managers answering my calls and I want to have a direct connection with my bride and be able to give her first-hand information rather than having it go via a manager

I hate using run-of-the-mill hair accessories and making a bride look over-accessorized

Namita Nayyar:

It must have been a challenge to convince your family that you wanted to pursue a career in the field of make-up and beauty. Share your initial challenges and how you overcame them

Bianca Louzado:

I stepped into the entertainment industry in 1999 as a VJ with the music Channel; CHANNEL V. Post that I was modeling and then was a flight attendant with an international carrier. I flew for a decade and then the job felt a bit monotonous, I knew I had something in store for me but I couldn’t put my finger on it.

It was my late dad who was watching TV with me one day and suddenly drew my attention to the fact that I was good at art and also had that knack for doing lovely make-up on my friends and that I could pursue makeup.  It was my parents who paid for my first make-up course, my make-up kit, and my make-up products. I am ever so grateful that they were so liberal and allowed me to have the freedom to choose a career that was my passion.

Namita Nayyar:

You conceptualized CODE Beauty as a one-stop shop for top-of-the-line beauty accessories and cosmetic hygiene solutions. Throw some light on what led you to take up this project

Bianca Louzado:

I commenced my Makeup career at the “India Couture Week” for the Manish Malhotra and Shahab Duraazi collection in 2010.

I got the opportunity to learn makeup from over 60 make-up artists globally & been certified by them. To name a few:

Through the years as a make-up artist, I noticed a glaring gap in hygiene and the use of high-quality beauty tools, across the beauty industry. To bridge this gap, I went on to conceptualize CODE Beauty as a one-stop shop for top-of-the-line beauty accessories and cosmetic hygiene solutions. ‘Code Beauty’ is India’s first cosmetic sanitizing label and recently launched the world’s first double-sided multifunctional brush set Handcrafted in Japan in addition to the brand’s best sellers Brush & sponge Cleaners.

Namita Nayyar:

Share some input on your clients and how you go about convincing them on what would look the best on them when coming down to make-up and hairstyle.

Bianca Louzado:

I always do a video call with my clients. After so many years of make-up experience, I am in a position to understand face structures/skin tones/skin types/knowledge of products / how to calm their nerves and run them through the entire process of hair and makeup according to the outfits they wear.

Namita Nayyar:

How do you like to kick-start your day? What are the key essentials for a healthy skin?

Bianca Louzado:

For my skin, I use hyaluronic acid/vitamin C serum/niacinamide/retinol and sunscreen routine.

Namita Nayyar:

What kind of diet do you follow and encourage your customers to a healthy hair and skin?

Bianca Louzado:

I am a firm believer that if you’re healthy on the inside the outside job will be an easier task. So I ensure I have a glass of freshly squeezed apple beetroot carrot and ginger juice on most days/pomegranate juice/watermelon juice. I am a mindful eater. I am constantly on the move and it’s hard to keep to a diet It’s been a conscious decision that I’ve made as a New Year’s resolution to completely ban pizzas/burgers/fries and anything deep-fried/unnecessary dessert cravings. It’s been two years since I’ve been off aerated drinks, something I loved, but I want to keep my diet more basic and nutritious.

Best hair care tips for women who are into regular styling and treatment.

Bianca Louzado:

I would recommend that you skip your blow dries for a while. Opt for heat protectors, try scalp treatments / use hair masks / Olaplex if you have coloured hair. Take your hair supplements and use the right shampoo and conditioners.

Namita Nayyar:

Hygiene tips by you regarding make-up tools and products. What would be the result if one ignores them?

Bianca Louzado:

We all have makeup kits and most people leave their make-up brushes lying In the same pouch unwashed for days on end and then use the same brushes over and over again, your dirty brushes transfer harmful bacteria onto your skin causing acne and breakouts. It is therefore essential for you to wash your makeup brushes regularly. Code Beauty makes the most delicious and naturally fragrant soap cleansers. It also had a built-in brush cleaning pad inside the lid. It would be great to form a habit of washing your make-up brushes and beauty blenders.

Make-up tips for acne-prone skin, by Bianca

Bianca Louzado:

Visiting a dermatologist to get their advice would be imperative. But I would highly recommend you to use hypoallergenic products, clean beauty tools, and make-up that are not expired. Makeup removal for acne-prone skin is also an essential routine that one must pay attention to. Post usage of make-up it is also imperative to adapt a good skin care routine.

Namita Nayyar:

Brands and products you recommend for women over 50

Bianca Louzado:

At the age of 50, there is a depletion of collagen. I would recommend you treat yourself to collagen facials/hydra facials/usage of face tools for lymphatic drainage and use cream-based products so that the foundation looks more natural and not Caked. Bobby Brown/two-faced / skin story had a great multi-stick, and Mario & PAT McGrath have superb hyaluronic-infused foundations.

Namita Nayyar:

Your daily hair care routine.

Bianca Louzado:

I have been making my homemade oils for the last 25 years. I use a mix of rosemary/castor/olive oil/ coconut/ almond / Alma and areetha oil once a week only on my scalp. I’ve reduced the number of times I blow dry my hair and I use a leave-in conditioner by Red Ken. I use OUAI hair oil that acts as a heat protector before my blow dries. I wash my hair with KERASTASE therapist shampoo and conditioner.

 Namita Nayyar:

Make-up trends that are going to rock in 2024. Also, the make-up artist you admire the most.

Bianca Louzado:

Reverse contouring / Demi matte foundation (not too Dewy and not too matte) I admire Deepika’s make-up artist Anil Chinnappa. No fake followers’ just pure art! Today it’s only about artists who do well with their reels on Instagram. Real artists are concentrating on their art and not on their fan following.

Namita Nayyar:

Message for women for upcoming International Women’s Day.

Bianca Louzado:

A woman must be financially independent and not be dependent on anyone for your money. As much as you would want to be a multitasker in today’s fast-paced life also learn to have a fine balance between self-care and your work. Switch off. Do nothing. Be still and listen to your mind and body. Care for it. Nurture it. Your answers will come to you when you are still 🙂
