Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

Actually, when I won Miss Pune, I was quite shocked because I was a total tomboy with short hair. I was not a girl who was growing up to Bollywood numbers or dancing to the tunes or, taking care of myself or secretly applying lipstick. I was never that good. I was somebody was playing basketball with boys and swimming and, going cycling. I was a very outdoor person and I had no idea that I had the capability to win a pageant because honestly, I would not even spend like a minute looking at myself in the mirror. I had acne. I was dark, I think, because of all the sunburn. But when I won Miss Pune and somebody offered me my first is when I realized, oh, I do look nice. And and I started exploring, this side of creativity or art. And I realized very early in my career that I was good at it. I was good at emoting.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have been in the entertainment industry for almost a decade, tell us which role did you enjoy doing the most

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

Yup, it’s been about 16 years since I’m a part of this beautiful industry and I have nothing but a lot of gratitude, a lot of immense respect for those who gave me the confidence that I could be an actor. I have done some really celebrated roles right from the start of my career to the time that I was really appreciated for Anjali, from “Is Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Do”.  I played Manjima in Kaala Teeka and also I think for a very little short span of time that I was in Big Boss 13. I feel really thankful to the makers to have made me a part of that because I found really a lot of love even though the shortest span that anybody could spend in a reality show like Big Boss and of course, as Nach Baliye winner also, I think I had the confidence that I could dance. And this industry has given me a lot, I’m thankful for multiple reasons. And now I’m starting to produce as well. I’ve just registered my production company. And I’m really proud, really happy that I’m stepping into a new journey in this industry.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Women Fitness India talks about celebrity diets and fitness regimes, do you follow any particular diet? What is your favorite cuisine?

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

So my diet keeps changing.  I used to do intermittent very, very efficiently during my shoots. Then recently I did keto for about two months. I keep changing it I don’t make my body used to a particular way. I like to give it carbs. Also, I like to deprive my body of carbs. Also, I believe in a balanced diet. So if I’m not having carbs, I’m making sure that I’m having a lot of vegetables and mixed nutrition so that my body is not deprived at any level. And I think touchwood, my immunity is fine. And, I recover very fast when I fall ill also. And I just think that having a diet is important. I think it is all about having discipline in life, but also to let loose is important. So it’s a mix that I have in my life, but my friends who know me say that I’m very disciplined and I’m not somebody who goes out of my way to spoil my body.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

5 Foods you would recommend out of personal experience  when trying to lose weight to upkeep optimum energy.

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

I strongly recommend protein for vegetarians there are a lot of milk products and for the non-vegetarians, there is a buffet of options. I also recommend fiber because digestion is very important as well. So, veg, especially raw veggies are very important to help you digest and keep you healthy and active. Lots of fluids as well. I don’t recommend a lot of fruits as well obviously it’s a lot of sugar, but water, lime juice, and lemonade are very important So, yes a balanced diet is what I like to stick to.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

“What I would have probably become in 10 years, I became in three years. I’m very proud of the fact that I’m back. I look thinner than ever and younger too.”  How long did it take you to achieve your goal? You had a transformation after losing your post-natal weight, Tips you would like to share for new moms

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur

I had to take a forced sabbatical because obviously I became a proud mother and I had obviously lost in shape, I had become like 86 kgs, almost 25, 30 kgs more. And it was quite a nightmare for an actor to look at me. And I almost thought that acting would never be something that I can get back to. But of course, I pulled myself together. I started working out. I started taking care of what I eat. As I said, I’m not really a foodie. I’m not somebody who likes eating junk or desserts. I’m much disciplined as a person. And the day I put my mind into it, I put my complete focus on being healthy.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How do you manage your fitness regime? 5 indoor exercises that you feel are very effective for home workout.

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

Well, I like to do a lot of indoor exercises, I think that’s how it is going to be in the coming future, considering the whole virus scenario. I think yoga definitely to start with, whether it is breathing exercises, are Surya Namaskar or the other forms, which helps to stretch. And I am somebody who ordered a lot of weights in my house. I like to do weight training also cardio. Also, there are a lot of exercises you can do at home, whether it is jumping jacks or, mountain climbing. So I definitely recommend it as a routine, as a lifestyle for everybody at every age group, because I make my son also work out with me. I sometimes tell him to go up down the stairs of the building as well. So I think it’s very important for everybody of every age group to take care of themselves. And being fit should be a lifestyle, not a mantra to become sexy.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have flawless skin, Skincare brands that you swear by?

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

I don’t think I have flawless skin. I like to keep a check on the way my skin has been aging over the years. But with a lot of makeup and lights on my face every single day being daily soap actors, the quality of skin definitely deteriorates. I could have had better skin had I been able to avoid so much makeup. But I let my skin breathe and keep a check on it and don’t like to put on makeup most of the time as much as I can avoid it. I keep myself hydrated, I drink a lot of water internally and externally by toning and moisturizing it there are the basic things that work for me.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have been part of reality and fiction shows both, your favorite genre and what did you enjoy doing the most

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

Having done both genres I realized both are like two different sides of a coin. In reality shows…u have a lot more than you can explore as an individual and there are real emotions and real people confronting each other. So it’s very interesting and the daily soaps are something where you start living a character altogether and people start relating with you like those characters. I received a lot of love from my fans in both of these….and I enjoyed both equally… It’s difficult to choose from the two

Ms.Namita Nayyar:

You have an amazing following on your social media, what according to you is the best and worst part of social media? Also, message for your followers

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

I think social media is a boom, if you think of it, because I have connected with fans all over the world, which is not the case six years, seven years back, when I was working, we had to go to a certain country and meet fans that was like the only way. But I think with social media, we have connected beautifully. I speak to a lot of my fans from around the world, and it’s beautiful to have a technology like that today. But on the downside, I think the trolling that we talk about it is something which is very disheartening. There are people there are kids who are looking for a reason to bash each other or probably just sitting and waiting for somebody to make a mistake or say something that they don’t agree with.  I really wish that social media was a better place to be in like a safe place. You know, if I had an opinion, if you could agree to disagree, but not bash or troll somebody for making an opinion, which you might not agree.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Pilates exercises you followed to strengthen your back post pregnancy.

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

I think more than physical fitness, to remain mentally strong and fit is more important because I was in a depression not too long ago and at that time I use to eat a lot and a lot of the wrong kind of food. It’s very weird that how it works, you are depressed, you start eating a lot and so, my mental state directly affected my physical self too. I ate a lot, put on a lot of weight, and being in this field and as on outer, it depressed me further. It was a vicious circle so, I want to urge to everybody who may be going through a similar circle, where they feel that they are at such a stage and the lowest point of life. They should buckle up and try and get back to their physical fitness. The moment you get physically fit, you don’t attract disease, then you can think straight. Mentally your function and find a solution to your problem that you are growing through. So for me, mental fitness is much more important, but your fitness is co-related as well. So yes, buck up, get up and show up. Life is beautiful.

Ms.Namita Nayyar:

Lastly, Women Fitness India is a platform for spreading awareness on importance of  being mentally and physically fit. Quote you live by.

Ms. Dalljiet Kaur:

The quote I live by –

“Tough times never last  But tough people do “And I swear by these words !!
