Women Fitness team catches up with her on her profession, fitness, diet, beauty and mental health during these challenging times.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Starting off by playing the role of Sita in the 2008 television series Ramayana. It has been a never-ending journey. Today you are an established name in the Entertainment Industry, Share how has this journey been for you?

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee:

I am extremely happy and thankful to Almighty with the way everything shaped off rather. How the journey has been for me. I think it has been excellent. The kind of range that I have been able to show as an actor with the various shows that I got to act in my career is commendable. After doing Sita, I was getting quite a few roles of the same genre. In fact, people were wanting to cast me as Parvati and Sati

So it was a conscious decision to stay away from my theological character and wait for the right opportunity. That’s when Chidiya Ghar came across. And I did it with a lot of conviction. And people loved me in that eccentric role of Mayuri. And after that, I had a huge leap in the terms of playing a negative character. But I think conviction is the key. By playing the negative character also, I was so convinced at the desire of the woman that I played, I think the negative character also stood out and people just loved her

Sabrina, I’m talking about her. So, yeah, the journey has been excellent

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Fitness plays a very important role in an actor’s life, tell us how you manage to look so fit with tight schedules. 5 favourite indoor exercises.

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee

Fitness plays a very important role, but unless you put it in your brain that it is a lifestyle. And it is not an on-off thing or it is not bound or stuff like I’m supposed to do. So I am doing it or rather because I’m an actor. That is why I have to do it. It will never work. So I think you’ll have to take it as your lifestyle, the way we brush our teeth. We don’t forget it, because if you forget to brush our teeth, we feel very uneasy, we will feel unhygienic, and we will feel a lot of things which is all-natural. And similarly, if we skipped working out a day. The day you feel that Oh, my God. I’m not feeling good. I’m feeling something different. That is the time. You should be fully convinced that, yes, it has become a lifestyle and not just because you have seen somebody doing it. So you are doing it for a couple of days.

5 Indoor Activities

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you follow any particular diet? How often you cheat on your diet?

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee :

I do follow a particular diet in the sense not to like whatever some fad diets or anything.

I follow a diet of low carb, low zero sugar diet in the sense I don’t take sugar. Not in the form of honey fruit or anything. Cheating is. Yes, cheating I do for food when I mean, I go out to eat in a restaurant mostly. And there are lots of people. Sometimes it’s really, really, really difficult to follow any kind of diet order like having a fruit is kind of cheating for me and having some home cooked, Roti, Chawal is cheating for me. So that also I do. Yeah. So that I do not forget the normalcy at all.

During the lock-down I was really going astir with my diet over the initial couple of days and then I realized it’s important to get back into diet and fitness because otherwise I was not feeling very well from inside and outside.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Food habits you would never like to change?

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee:

Eating clean is something that I would never like to change, because I don’t think bhajiya and any kind of sugary stuff, it attracts me. Also because the other day we were watching something and people were frying something in the television, some cooking show.  And my mom said, “Yummy, that’s looking so nice. Do you think we should have that today? I could make it.” And I was like, no, it does not giving me any kind of desire to even like think. That, yeah, I could have it in a while, so I had this will and even the by the look, I am never attracted to anything that is deep. Right.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You ventured in YouTube recently, and in no time had a huge following, tell us how did the idea pop up and how different it was from the work you have done previously?

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee:

I ventured into YouTube, and within some time, it was pretty going on, pretty nice. Well I think, yeah, it is different because the reach is spectacular into the villages of India to abroad, to countries. I have never visited to countries I have visited. So once when I was in London, I had gone to the zoo. I was welcomed by a group of people who said that they watch my YouTube channel. I think that’s a beautiful thing to have happened when you are travelling.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Skincare habits that you swear by? Any skincare tips for the young and ageing woman both

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee:

Skin care habits that I swear by is, never to sleep with makeup on . Never start your day without wearing the sunscreen. The rest of the intricate details, I think, is there on my YouTube channel and which I keep talking like a nagging woman. And skin care is all about following it diligently, regularly, every day. It’s not a onetime thing. So you have to be very regular. You have to be very diligent as far as skin care is concerned.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How important do you think that mental wellness is important today? Any personal experience on how to cope up with stress?

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee:

Paying attention to mental illness is equally important. If you’re thinking that everybody’s at home in their is secure or safe , it’s not like that. Mental health is taking a toll on people. And I would see that with myself because I started feeling very unwell, very, very unwell. And I started feeling feeling weird and unwell. Maybe in some other video I will talk about it in details. But yes, I started feeling so unwell. And I mean and not having the security of my home, being with my family and monetary security could give me a solace because I was extremely feeling unwell. So that’s when finally I had to talk to a doctor, talk about all my illness, which was absolutely physical that I started feeling. And then my doctor assured me its mental health. And mentally, I’m feeling all these pain, which physically does not actually exist. So I think that being me, a very confident girl and working, I had been working regularly there, work lined up even after the lockdown.

I’m sitting in the safety and security of my house in spite of that. If I could feel this, there are many, many, many people out there who have who would be feeling things similar, if not the same. So people need to reach out to people. People need to talk to people. If doctor possible? But don’t think that it is a very easy thing. Take it seriously. And talk to people. And trust me, the moment you start talking to people, you’ll feel better.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tell us something about your upcoming projects post Lock-down

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee:

Post lock-down. I have Aladdin that I just started shooting for. So obviously that is the commitment that I already have going. So I will have to get back in to shooting that. And obviously, there are a few, My YouTube channel videos wherein I collaborated with a few brands and all those things are always ongoing.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Last, how would you define “Women-Fitness” for our viewers?

Ms. Debina Bonnerjee:

Women fitness is of utmost importance because women think that because they do a lot of work at home so they don’t need to do an extra movement in the name of fitness because that’s a very wrong concept. Even if you are moving inside the house slowly, that will be fine. It is being active and being busy in something. But you just need to take out some time and do a workout for half an hour at least, or walk in one whole 24 hour, half an hour at least.

Taking care of the food that the women are taking is also extremely important because women, while taking care of the house, tend to overlook their own health. And that’s something that I would not propagate. Women definitely need to take care of their health and wellness more than men or rather the they should take the upper hand and help men, women, whoever is there in the house, motivate and take care of everybody’s health in the house along with their own selves.
