Namita Nayyar:

Jasleen you started your career with no prior training in music, when did you realize that you wanted to look for a career in music?

Jasleen Royal

Ever since I was a little kid, hardly 5-6 years of age, I was deeply fascinated by musical instruments and music in general. Very early in my life I had realized my calling for music and was certain I wanted to become a music composer. My inclination towards music led me to be curious and eager to learn, and I started figuring playing music on my own. With gradual practice and dedication I became better and realized I could form a tune in my head and figure a way to play it. And thus, my musical journey began!

Namita Nayyar:

Being in the industry, there is constant competition to stay relevant, how do manage to stay relevant when choosing your work?

Jasleen Royal

I strongly believe in creating my art to the best of my abilities, I compose because it makes me the happiest. I don’t let any pressure bog me down because I thrive the best when I am happy and content with my efforts, which is why I strive to deliver my 200%, if it is good, it strikes a chord with the audience transcending boundaries and any barriers, if it is not, you simply work harder.

Namita Nayyar:

You recently worked as a solo composer for Runway 34, how was your experience? What future projects do you wish to work on?

Jasleen Royal

It has been a wonderful experience, it was my second collaboration with Ajay sir, we had earlier worked together for Shivaay. As a composer, you often work in tandem with the theme and the situations of the script or scene. For the theme ‘The Fall’ in Runway 34, the scoring for the track was particularly very scary, as it made you imagine the things you always run from. It is important to understand the emotions of the sequence and present a tune that fits the situation accordingly, The Fall made me internalize and rise above the fears, and I am really grateful for the experience.

Namita Nayyar:

Women Fitness India talks about celebrity diets and fitness regimes, do you follow any special diet? Morning rituals that you follow?

Jasleen Royal:

While I don’t follow any fad diets or so, I do however make a conscious effort to eat clean. I avoid sugar as much possible and ensure my food is cooked in healthy oil. I do follow a morning routine, wherein I start my day with an aloe vera juice, it keeps my gut healthy.

Namita Nayyar:

How do you manage your mental and physical fitness? What does a day in your life look like?

Jasleen Royal:

Given the field we are in, it’s important to stay grounded and not get lost in the process. Thankfully, I have a tight group of people who are my anchors. I can pour my heart out to them, speak my mind, they are my reality check and primary factor in maintaining my sanity. I also began meditating a few years ago, I have stuck by that routine religiously and haven’t skipped a single day, even if it’s for 10 mins everyday. It really helps me in staying calm, composed and focused and imparts clarity to my mental being.

Well, my day starts with a glass of aloe vera juice as I said, some fruits, a video call to my family in Ludhiana, followed by coffee and breakfast. Then of course I move on to my work, checking emails, working on my compositions, catering to the deadlines and some cuddles with my dog! Right before sleeping I take a shower, meditate and sleep. This is of course when I’m not travelling, however I am travelling most of the time because of my gigs and tours. But whenever I am home, I do a 30 minutes cardio at home, followed by a quick body weight workout and mostly, I keep my diet clean.

Namita Nayyar:

With a huge following on social media, how do you deal with the negative side of social media?

Jasleen Royal:

We cannot deny the negative consequences of social media, the negativity does take a toll on your mind for sure. I recently unfollowed a lot of pages which I felt were messing with my mental peace. Also, most importantly, I am not that active.

Namita Nayyar:

Lastly, being on the cover issue, what message you would like to share for our readers who look upon your journey, what has played a pivotal role in your journey?

Jasleen Royal:

Firstly, thank you for all the love to everyone who has supported me and my journey. I am really grateful to each person who has enjoyed my music, you are my motivation and force that drives me.

I would just like to say, never give up on anything you set your mind on. I firmly believe in trying my best until it absolutely is not possible. I have always dreamt big and I intend to keep dreaming even bigger!
