Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Being one of the ace beauty bloggers and YouTubers of our country, looking back now how would you describe your journey? And what played a pivotal role in your success.

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

Oh I started at a time where Youtube was just picking up in India. There weren’t many of us. Also, I really loved watching makeup tutorials, it soothed me. So I decided to give it a shot too. I wanted to teach young people how to Wear up and look their absolute best. I started at a very low point in my life. I didn’t have much at that time. All I had was a bunch of makeup and my phone. I think having nothing makes you stronger and it makes you want to succeed so that you never have to go through that pain again. I think my resilience is what got me here today. I felt the intense need to pull my family out of discomfort while following my passion. Failure is a great teacher. It’s how you react to your failure that matters. I could’ve sulked and felt beat down by life. But I chose to fight for my dreams and I fought hard. God has blessed me with the skill I have today and I chose to use it to get me where I am today. So we all have choices at the end of the day, you have control over your life. And it’s a power we all underestimate.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Malvika, you were also part of India Next Top Model, how was your experience on being on the reality show, what were your take-backs from the show.

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

INTM was an experience I won’t forget. It was great to be in a competition everyday for 18 days of the shoot. I love healthy competition, it was my reason to wake up in the mornings. I knew I had to put my best foot forward in order to make sure I don’t get eliminated. So, it was great and I met some nice people. However, I don’t think it helped me in my modeling career as such. What I will thank INTM for, is my Audience. I gained a slight bit of popularity back in the day, it gave me a boost to build my YouTube channel.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Today “makeup shaming” is really prevalent especially on social media, since people can share their opinions more anonymously, being a makeup lover and beauty blogger your take on the same.

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

Developing a thick skin was one of the initial lessons I taught myself with each passing day as I came more and more under the scrutiny of more people. For me personally, the key lies to be secure with yourself, and love yourself enough so that the only thing that really does grab your attention are positive comments, and constructive feedback. However, sometimes when the comments do get a bit extreme, I prefer utilizing my Instagram platform to explain and put forth my point of view in the most gentle manner possible.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you follow any particular diet? What are your favorite cheat meals?

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

If I am being honest, I do not follow a diet! For me, life has been way too short to avoid or say no to a good plate of food. I have been blessed with a mother that knows how to cook almost everything you usually crave, but I’d never go on a diet because I can never say no to Mangalorean food made by my mum! Apart from that, one of my favorite cheat meals is a well-made burger with a side of fries.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What is your favorite form of workout? During quarantine how are you managing your workout regime and who are your favorite fitness YouTubers.

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

I love functional training regimes, it is what I have been doing for a few years now with my trainer, and going to the gym was an absolute must on my schedule since I prefer working out rigorously to burn off the calories as I don’t diet. During quarantine, I enjoy a great workout for my glutes and try to do it with my husband, Akhil to stay motivated and consistent. My go-to fitness YouTuber even before I got a trainer, to my time in quarantine has been Blogliates, but my audience recommended Chloe ting as well, so I shuffle between the two.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Today many people want to venture into YouTube as a full-time career, you have a huge subscriber fan base of 500k+, Share 5 tips for a beginner.

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

#1 – Stay Consistent. Create, edit, and upload at least twice or thrice a week and keep going at it. Sometimes you might want to give up, or delay timelines but when you are starting out, consistency is everything.

#2 – Your followers come first. The minute you gain a certain degree of momentum on your channel, you will be approached by several brands and paid collaborations, and while multiple endorsements seem tempting, pick and choose the brands you personally like, you have tried and tested because you are only an influencer if you have followers to influence, so they always come first.

#3 – Be authentic. Being you is all you got. You must try not to copy another YouTuber or their style of videos. Try and do something different. Stick to who you are and share stories. People love to hear about your life. So try and invite them into your life as much as you can. And be RAW. be real. Show scars, show your face without makeup. Treat your audience like you would your best girlfriends.

#4. It’s very important to invest in good equipment because that will set the foundation for your channel. You have to have crisp videos. Clear visuals and aesthetically pleasing content. Natural light is the best, no need to spend money on artificial lighting. So you can save your money and buy a good Vlogging camera instead, like the Canon G7x mark 2 or an iPhone works as well.

#5. Pick a Niche. Don’t try and do everything in the beginning.

Pick either beauty, cooking, fashion, workouts or whatever you wish and stick to one main genre. Master Your craft and excel in only that genre in the beginning.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Today the audience feels the blogger industry has been completely sold out seeing the number of paid promotions of products being done, do you think this affects the quality of content and authenticity.

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

Personally, I have always believed in showing my truest self to my audience, which is why it is a mandate for me to try and experience every service, product, and brand that I continue to work with on a collaborative basis since that has what gotten my success today. I refrain from campaigns that hamper my creative freedom and would want me to adhere to a script or a strict narrative since the best way for any influencer to function is to do it in the language they speak with their audience. It is a personal preference for each influencer to select the category of campaigns they would like to do.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Women Fitness Indian version talks about women health mentally and physically, how important do you think it is to be fit from inside and out.

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

I am an absolute believer in self-love! I realized the importance of keeping myself healthy inside out really quickly in my career. Whether it was working out every day, being groomed at all points in time, reading and learning about different perspectives, and also taking the much-needed break sometimes, I have learned all these important lessons through personal instances. An ode to this very belief, I want to be able to help my audience also be healthy mentally and physically which is why I decided to release a series called Journey to Self Love. They all know my workout regimes, and beauty routines and to progress and focus on our mental health is the goal I am trying to achieve for all of my subscribers.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

5 Beauty tips women to follow to prevent wrinkles, dark spots and premature aging.

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

I have never experienced either of the three thus I would prefer to not comment.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Has marriage changed your life anyway professionally? Tips to manage time between family and work?

Ms. Malvika Sitlani:

I have been with my husband for the last 11 years, and thus not much has changed. The only new feeling I experienced since the day I was married legally has been of excitement, every time I was addressed as his wife, or I would say Malvika Sitlani Aryan out loud because these small things were the only ones either of never experienced before.

To manage time, I just make sure wherever I am, I give me 100% time and energy to that specific task. During the day is when I am usually occupied with content creation and thus focusing on the task at hand solely allows me and my family to unwind and give each other time during the evening-night period, which also means that once I am with my family, it is a no-phone zone and doing something fun together.
