Rajasthan: To make Wearing Masks Mandatory

Rajasthan will soon be the first state in the country to make wearing masks in public places mandatory to prevent the spread of Covid.

Chief minister Ashok Gehlot, addressing a video conference here on Monday, said, “The state government is planning to bring a legislation to make it mandatory to wear masks in the state to check the spread of Covid-19 infection.”

“A bill will be tabled in the forthcoming assembly session beginning from October 31. Washing hands, wearing masks and following social distancing are the only ways to prevent the spread of Covid-19 till a vaccine is launched,” he said.

According to doctors, even if a vaccine is invented, the protection it can provide is about 40% while a mask prevents chances of infection by 95%, said Gehlot.

He was discussing the success of ‘No mask-No entry’ public campaign launched in the state on October 2 with district collectors, college principals, corporation and council officials, district sports officials, NSS, Scout cadets amongst others through video conference.

Gehlot said a person not wearing a mask not only compromises his own health but also of others who come into contact with him. He said nobody has the right to compromise others’ health by not following health protocols.
