Role of right breathing practice for better all-round development & beat stress

Nidhi Mohan Kamal:

Right breathing practice plays a crucial role in achieving better all-around development and beating stress in yoga. In yoga, breath control, known as pranayama, is considered one of the foundational principles. By incorporating specific breathing techniques, individuals can experience numerous benefits for their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Proper breathing techniques in yoga help to optimize the flow of prana, or life force energy, throughout the body. This enhances the overall functioning of the body’s systems, including the respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems. By improving oxygen intake and circulation, breathing practices increase energy levels, promote relaxation, and enhance mental clarity.

Moreover, the practice of conscious breathing aids in stress reduction. Deep, slow breaths activate the body’s relaxation response and counteract the effects of the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the “fight-or-flight” response. As a result, stress levels decrease, and individuals experience a greater sense of calm and balance.

By incorporating proper breathing techniques into yoga, individuals can unlock the full potential of their physical postures (asanas) and meditation. Breath awareness cultivates mindfulness and presence, allowing practitioners to deepen their mind-body connection and experience a more profound sense of inner peace and harmony.

Namita Nayyar:

How long have you been practicing yoga and how has it helped you as an individual?

It’s been a decade now however I used to practice as a kid in school as well. Yoga has made me calmer as an individual and helped me understand myself better

Namita Nayyar:

Tips as to how one can incorporate a yogic way of life in today’s fast-paced world?

Nidhi Mohan Kamal:

  1. Set aside dedicated time: Create a routine that includes regular yoga practice, meditation, and self-reflection. Even short sessions can have a positive impact.
  2. Practice mindfulness: Bring awareness to your daily activities, such as eating, working, and interacting with others. Stay present at the moment and cultivate gratitude.
  3. Prioritize self-care: Take care of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Get enough sleep, eat nourishing foods, and engage in activities that bring you joy.
  4. Simplify and declutter: Let go of excess possessions and commitments that cause stress. Embrace simplicity and create space for peace and clarity.
  5. Foster positive relationships: Surround yourself with supportive and like-minded individuals who share similar values and goals.
  6.  Practice ahimsa (non-violence): Extend kindness and compassion to yourself and others. Cultivate empathy and seek peaceful resolutions.

Namita Nayyar:

Diet tip to get the best out of yoga practice.

Nidhi Mohan Kamal:

To get the best out of yoga practice, it is recommended to follow a sattvic diet. Sattvic foods are pure, and light, and promote clarity of mind and a sense of calmness. Include fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds in your diet. Avoid processed and heavy foods, caffeine, alcohol, and foods with artificial additives. Prioritize organic and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Eating sattvic foods supports the body’s natural energy flow, enhances digestion, and promotes overall well-being, facilitating a deeper and more effective yoga practice.
