Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You participated in a reality TV show, ‘Nokia your wish is my app’ won Rs.10 lakh prize, joined Google India, and then your ventured Bigg Boss, and now you are a leading content creator. Looking back how would you describe your journey?

Ms. Nitibha Kaul:

Well, looking back, I think my journey has been an amalgamation of a lot of experiences which were super different from one another, be it doing a mobile app reality show to be participating in Miss India to joining a company like Google, to then getting India’s biggest reality show, like it’s been such a crazy journey altogether.

And there have been so many ups and downs and so many learnings and so many different kinds of experiences that I feel like it’s just contributed to my growth as an individual. I believe that this journey is the reason that I landed up in the profession that I am in today, which is I would see my dream profession of creating content because this is something I feel like I was born to do. And if I were to combine all my learnings and skillsets into one field that I could contribute the most to, then I think that would be the field of content creation and influencer marketing, which is what I’m doing right now. So I feel like all these varied experiences have led me to where I am today, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Was it scary when you thought of participating in Bigg Boss, given that you’d had no prior exposure to TV? How did your family take it?

Ms. Nitibha Kaul:

Well, of course, it was scary, firstly, because I had no idea what I was getting into honestly at that point, I was just 23 years old. I wanted to try out new things in life and take risks.

So I really didn’t see what was coming my way because once I was on the show, I realized how difficult it is to survive in it, how all these people who have had years and years of industry experience, of being in front of the camera and knew exactly the right things to do in the right things to do. And I had no experience whatsoever, I felt very lost. But I believe, “Daar Ke Aage Jeet Hai”, I feel like when you embrace your fears, when you do something out of your comfort zone and take risks, that’s when you push yourself to do something you never imagined you would do and achieve.

And that’s what happened to me,I went into big boss, a naive young girl who did not really know what she was getting into. But I came out, you know, as a person who the entire country loved. And with regards to my family, yes they were also very apprehensive because they knew that I had a very steady job profile and a career, that Google had always been a very studious student.

So for them to even entertain the idea that I’m going to quit my job offer, a reality show was quite a bit crazy. But one thing I have to give credit to my parents, and especially my father, is the fact that they always were supportive, even in my wacky decisions. They didn’t make me feel like I was alone they always gave me their point of view. But once I had taken a decision, they always supported me. So I will always be grateful for that open-mindedness that came from them.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

After Bigg Boss you didn’t take the route of acting and modelling and rather ventured as a content creator, share your mind space then?  Also, after making an exit from the show, you have been surprising us with your stunning pictures, what all lead to this major transformation?

Ms. Nitibha Kaul:

Well, first of all, thank you, there’s a lot of work that goes behind the stunning pictures as they all look effortless and breezy, but the kind of brainstorming, ideation, and background work that goes behind the scenes of all those amazing pictures is basically the job of content creation. And that is something that obviously didn’t come naturally to me after big boss, because, of course, the first thing everyone says you have come out of the show and you gain popularity. Now you want to try modeling or you wanted to act. And that’s exactly why I’d move to Bombay as well right after because I was there for nine months.

But during those nine months, I actually ended up doing a lot of events instead of actually acting work, and I started working with brands and also launched my YouTube channel. So social media was something that was always ingrained inside me. I was always interested in posting online even while I was at Google. I used to be extremely, extremely active on stories, on Instagram, on Facebook, on Snapchat.

So it was just a very natural progression, to be able to share my life and update people about what I’m doing on social media, And I think brands noticed that very soon and wanted me to endorse their products and during this time also realize that acting is something that I don’t wish to pursue because I never felt passionate about it. I never had a dream of becoming an actor.

So it was just something that was forced upon me as a natural consequence of coming out of a reality show. But then it took me a few months to just realize that I wasn’t cut out for the do. I got a lot of offers from production houses very big names. They wanted me to act and the TV soaps, etc. but I decided to go on and host a show with MTV after which I moved back to Delhi. And the rest is history.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Any particular diet you follow? What are your favourite cuisines?

Ms.Nitibha Kaul:

Well, to be fair, I think my favorite cuisine is from the place that I belong to Kashmir. I love Kashmiri Wazawan and Kashmiri food. As a kid growing up, I used to crave all different kinds of cuisines. I loved Italian, I love Chinese, I love Thai, I wanted to try North Indian all the time. But now that I’ve grown up, I have realized that my taste buds eventually favored my own cuisine more than anything else.

And now I just die for that food that my mom used to give me on a daily basis. And I don’t get it anymore. So, yeah, definitely Kashmiri cuisine. And well, with regards to my diet, I have a very simple policy of eating whatever I feel like eating and sticking to home-cooked meals. I do not restrict myself from anything in particular. Nor have any dietary restrictions when it comes to sugar or dairy or carbs. I eat rice, a lot of parathas or, it’s all very easy going for me. And home-cooked meals are something that I enjoy the most.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What comprises your fitness regime? Your go-to favorite fitness you tubers

Ms. Nitibha Kaul:

Well, my fitness routine comprises of a combination of high-intensity cardio activity, like kickboxing with intermittent yoga routines that I also do. So yoga and kickboxing are essentially what I’ve been doing right now. I’ve been doing functional training for the last two to three years. I do want to move on to now going to the gym and lifting weights, though, because I feel like that’s my natural progression. But currently, I’m doing kickboxing, yoga and my favorite YouTubers fitness oriented.

In fact, there’s just one who I follow religiously, whose tutorials I follow on a daily basis, and that is Adriene. Her channel is called Yoga with Adriene. And it’s either of the two. And I think she’s absolutely amazing because she does not just cater to the body and how yoga can help you get fit together for the body, but also caters to the mind and how you can, maintain your calm, peace, and equilibrium while you’re doing yoga routine with her. So I think that’s amazing.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

As a content creator, what would be your advice for upcoming bloggers/influencers/youtubers?

Ms. Nitibha Kaul:

Well, my advice to the people wanting to start as a social media influencer,a budding creator, as you tuber, but the top advice would be to just start because a lot of people are afraid of the competition, are afraid of making it big or afraid of leaving a mark or not. But all of those possibilities are only possible if you start. So that’s my number one advice to somebody who’s just getting started. Do not think about equipment. Not think about production value, or how aesthetic your content looks. It could be you could just use a phone camera. And if your content is strong and impactful and if you put your heart and soul into it, then you can make it big for sure.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What are your upcoming future plans & projects for the 2021 approaching?

Ms. Nitibha Kaul:

Well, for 2020, I had planned a lot of things, but thanks to the pandemic, a lot of plans were had to be put on hold. But in 2021, I wish to continue working with the kind of brands that I’m already working with. And even, aspiring to work with luxury brands. That’s one area that I haven’t yet touched upon in India, at least, that I haven’t really worked with the top luxury brands yet.

So I definitely aspire to do that. And I aspire to grow my team, and to also not just be a great mentor but also allow my team members to gain perspective about their careers and allow them to grow with me, because that’s very fulfilling, not just to grow yourself, because to help others grow with you. And the other thing that I’m planning for 2021 is to take things a little more entrepreneurially. I am planning to start a couple of ventures which I have been thinking of for a while. And also hopefully in 2021, I will not just be a content creator, but also an entrepreneur.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

5 Skincare routine that you follow? Also, homemade/organic products that you swear by

Ms. Nitibha Kaul:

Well, the five steps that I follow in my skincare for sure, on a daily basis include sunscreen, include a nice toner, of course, a nice cleanser, then I do always use a serum which has either vitamin c or hyaluronic acid in it. And of course, last but not the least would be a great, great moisturizer, because no matter what skin type you are, you need a lot of hydration for your skin to be able to survive.

And of course, I always have to invest in a great cleansing wipe or Micellar water brand, which allows me to take off all the makeup that I use on the multiple shoots that I do on the daily basis. Investing in skincare is very important. And of course, sticking to your roots and using organic and homemade products is again very useful.

I love rose water, the natural and more organic it is, the better it is for your skin. Yeah, turmeric, gram flour, and curd I think these are three ingredients that can really help. And of course, multani mitti if I am breaking out because I have oily sensitive skin, it works wonders.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Nitibha, you hail from Kashmir? 5 foods or fashions you still admire from your roots?

Ms. Nitibha Kaul:

I think what do I even say about Kashmiri food and culture is just so vibrant and so, so, so beautiful, one thing that I love about Kashmiri fashion, of course, is the Kashmiri embroidery that they do on all sorts of things, be it Indian suits be it on their carpets or even on shawls. The embroidery, I think is exquisite, along with, of course, the world-famous Pashmina, I think pashmina is just so classic. And of course, my mom has a few stored for me too, sort of carrying from my ancestors. And when it comes to food, I absolutely love Kashmiri dum aloo, love Kashmiri Rogan josh, the list is endless.

Ms.Namita Nayyar:

Lastly, what message would you like the give to WF readers on to people contemplating making a big switch in their lives or work

Ms.Nitibha Kaul:

Well, to all women fitness readers, I would say just stay fit. It’s great that you’ve subscribed to a magazine or a portal that allows you information about well-being, about fitness, about stories that could inspire you to change your life and the direction of your career and all the people who are wishing to make that switch.

I think it’s basically it’s now or never, because if you have any regrets in five years or ten years down the line, that you’re always going to be unfulfilled with your life. Instead of having that regret, just take the plunge. Do something out of the ordinary and you never know how your life might change? So just be positive about, you know, the possibilities or the outcomes of those risks and just do it. And, of course, keep into consideration that you need to, be considerate about your family, about people who love you.

But at the same time, you need to think about yourself, love yourself first, and just go for it.
