Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You represented India at the Miss World 2019 pageant in ExCeL London in United Kingdom, and were crowned as 2nd runner-up and as Miss World Asia. What motivated you to give beauty pageants a shot?

Ms. Suman Rao:

Beauty with a purpose projects are the vision and mission of miss world where women across the globe serve for their purpose, use their voices for the unheard and bring their respective projects to the world stage to be able to contribute their bit in the development of the society and I had a desire to be one of these women, to be able to help women in my community to realise the essence of self worth and break the unwanted barriers created by the conditioned minds of the conservative people in the society!

Hence I choose to participate in miss India in order to take my project to the national stage leading it to the world stage!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Share the best part of the job as a model?

Ms. Suman Rao:

I enjoy being in front of the camera so for me it’s this. Apart from that, you get to experiment with a variety of looks. In fact, on a personal note I got to know about the looks that suit me really well which I wouldn’t have thought about or given a try!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises are an integral part of your home workout routine? 5 must-do morning stretches?

Ms. Suman Rao:

To be honest I’m not one of the fitness enthusiasts but because I know that working out is very important to have a healthy lifestyle, I make sure that I must do basics and hence my 5 must-do would include squats, plank, jumping squats, push-ups and I’ve recently started doing  Surya Namaskar so that would be my 5th one!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Being a trained Kathak dancer, how has it helped you in staying fit?

Ms. Suman Rao:

I believe Kathak is one of the main reasons for me to look fit as I’ve already mentioned that I’m not one of the fitness enthusiasts and it’s been 5 years now of me learning Kathak. I love to dance, it’s a kind of meditation for me and my love for dance has kept me fit so far….hahaha

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Your meal before and after a workout? Secret to a slim torso.

Ms. Suman Rao:

I eat fruits before my workout and after the workout, a healthy breakfast which can include oats, idlis, fruit juice, protein shake etc. Secret to slim torso is having a great metabolism and for that I’ve already said have a cup of green tea in the morning!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Favorite meal of the day? What does it contain?

Ms. Suman Rao:

It would be my snacks. So I like eating unhealthy food which I believe we all do …hahaha but yes sometimes to just satisfy the stomach cravings I might eat a pizza, cold coffee with sandwiches or order McDonald’s, etc.

But this is like twice a month or less than that (you can consider it my cheat days) but not every day!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Your workout without gym equipment at home would be?

Ms. Suman Rao

2 things that I love about social media is

that :-

1) we can use it to even start a global movement if necessary for the welfare of the people as it holds that power to reach large numbers and

2)You get to share your life stories with the world

2 things I hate are :-

1) it’s usage to spread wrong information and 2) Cyber bullying

Ms. Namita Nayyar

Your campaign titled ‘Project Pragati’, for which you have taken initiatives to help the dreams of women in tribal communities by assisting them in acquiring financial independence. How is it progressing and how far have you been successful?

Ms. Suman Rao

We (by we I mean every single person who was there with me in this) started project-Project Pragati in collaboration with Princess Diya Kumari foundation and Udaan Mahila samuh to make women in the state of Rajasthan financially independent which will not only make them feel empowered financially but will also give them the confidence and courage to make their own decisions about their lives… about their education, or profession, or even when it comes to choosing their own groom… I’ve grown up seeing my mom doing whatever is being told to her by her parents, husband or in-laws…she never really had a say in any matters or I would say no one even bothered to ask her anything…I didn’t want this for any woman…neither me nor anyone….and this gave birth to Pragati!..

Under Pragati we have units in different villages of Rajasthan where women learn to make different kinds of products based on their skill sets and these products are being sold online and at local stalls in the state…we started with one and now we have 3 successful units in 3 different villages and these 3 units are giving employment to overall 70 women …We’re striving to take this project ahead by aiming to have at least one unit in every village.
