Namita Nayyar:

Can you tell us about your journey into cricket and what inspired you to pursue a career in this sport?

Veda Krishnamurthy:

The journey of cricket started as an inspiration to play sports, I came from a very small town where girls do not go out to play sports much, so I used to play sports in my town with boys when I was a child and it was always something that I enjoyed and wanted to do, I was into karate as well so sports has always been my area of interest and that was itself something that inspired me to do.

Namita Nayyar:

What has been the most memorable match or moment in your cricket career, and why?

Veda Krishnamurthy:

The most memorable match has been the 2017 World Cup because i feel that was the turning point for Women’s cricket being able to be part of that team and squad was the best thing that could happen and able to defeat New Zealand and qualify for the semi-finals is something I will always remember.

Namita Nayyar:

What have been the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?

Veda Krishnamurthy:

I think the biggest challenge any sports person goes through is not being selected during tournaments and leagues and that is what I faced as well, especially during the 2020 tournaments also I went through a personal loss which had a toll on my mental health and there was a time almost for 3 years when things where not working in my favor but eventually I got selected for WPL and that’s when I felt all my hard work paid off.

Namita Nayyar:

How do you maintain your physical fitness and mental well-being, especially with the demands of being a professional athlete?

Veda Krishnamurthy:

I feel what has been a revolutionary part of our fitness journey is the use of smartwatches and appliances it help us understand what is happening inside our body and at the same time track our performances be it our physical activity or heart rate. On certain days when we are not feeling our best and dont wish to train this helps to understand and even convey to our coach.

When it comes to mental well being what is important is to keep your happiness above anything that is something I have learned as well and would like to share that one’s happiness is the most important thing in this world and there is nothing more important than that.

Namita Nayyar:

How do you see the role and opportunities for women evolving in Indian cricket?

Veda Krishnamurthy:

It has with lot of support coming from BCCI and match fees, there is support and appreciation that was not there previously, and as a young girl in cricket, there is a lot of scope and area to grow and play.

Namita Nayyar:

Are there any social causes or initiatives you are particularly passionate about or involved in?

Veda Krishnamurthy:

Yes, I have been part of an adoption association for a while now besides that I have also been associated with wildlife conservation since that is an area that is close to my heart also I have been working with the Karnataka government to spread awareness about mensuration and use of menstruation cups, I feel glad that today I am in this position where I can spread awareness and influence and what better than to do it for a social cause.

Namita Nayyar:

What are your future goals and aspirations, both in your cricket career and personal life?

Veda Krishnamurthy:

When it comes to goals I am very open and looking to grow in cricket also I want to give back to my state Karnataka and also if given the opportunity play for my country team.
