Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You are a well-known face in the YouTube India industry, tell us what played a catalyst role in your journey of making an unconventional career choice? Also was this something you always dreamt of doing

Ms. Aditi Shrestha:

When I started my journey on social media I honestly had no idea where it’ll take me. This was never my dream but rather something I wanted to try out & explore by creating new videos. What played a catalyst role in my journey was opening myself to new opportunities like creating exciting series & episodes for my channel, collaborating with people I resonated with, most importantly being myself & once I started putting across my authentic opinions, mannerisms & lifestyle- it all clicked!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Today many budding YouTubers look up to you as a role model, who inspired you during your journey. Also, 3 advice for any budding YouTuber to grow their channel?

Ms. Aditi Shrestha:

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have mentioned in your videos that you had family problems, financial issues during your initial period, one thing that kept you going in spite of all those personal issues

Ms. Aditi Shrestha:

Before starting blogging/vlogging I’ve had instances in my life where I felt like a failure and my parents pretty much-lost faith in me. During our financial struggles, the one thing that really kept me going was that determination to change my story. I wanted to gain back my parent’s trust & sort of proving to myself too, that I can achieve something if I set my eyes on it. I’d save up money from the daily budget my mom gave me for metro/college expenses and when I had ₹1000, I spent it all in Sarojini Nagar for my haul videos.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have talked about mental health issues in many of your videos, do you think that in India still, mental health problems is a taboo to talk about

Ms.Aditi Shrestha:

I think yes, mental health is still something that people hesitate talking about, most of them don’t really understand that depression/anxiety is actually real & it has to do with chemical reactions in your brain. It’s not something one can snap out of by reading a “be positive” “this too shall pass” quote. Having a younger brother with special needs, psychotic attacks & experiencing bouts of anxiety myself, I’ve made it a point that a mainstream, decent channel like mine should openly talk about mental health & it shouldn’t be considered a huge deal. I’m so glad that my subscribers & core audience have an open discussion in the comment section about depression, therapy, autism & much more

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Today many people think that the blogger industry is completely sold out to brands, your take on the same

Ms. Aditi Shrestha:

Quite frankly it is, when I read some mails that few PR companies & brands write to me demanding a full scripted video almost like a TVC, it truly frustrates me as these are exactly the brands I’ve been dreaming of working with, and the money is good! It’s all about what kind of work ethic you have & prioritizes your viewers over anything. I’ve personally turned down many projects because they didn’t give me an equal opportunity to “collaborate”. Having said that, I also take up paid sponsorships for youtube & Instagram, that doesn’t make me a sell-out if I work according to my core values & I’m fortunate that some brands do provide you with that sort of creative freedom.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Social media is both a positive and negative place, many times creators receive a lot of hate and unnecessary trolling, and how do you deal with that? Does it affect you personally?

Ms. Aditi Shrestha:

It doesn’t affect me at all. Frankly, I don’t care. When I get feedback on my content & if the comment is too personal- regarding my family or younger brother, then it can hurt a bit but at the end of the day you have to understand where the troll/hate comment is coming from, it’s reflective of who they are as a person & their frustrations. It doesn’t actually concern me.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Walk us through a day in your life of how you manage your profession

Ms. Aditi Shrestha:

I wake up pretty early as my mom is hell-bent on teaching me yoga & meditation. This is something new I’m trying off lately. I can’t physically survive without coffee so after a hot cup of coffee & breakfast, I start feeling alive. I have a big old school notepad where I write what I have to do for the day & a few key points that I have to mention the content I’m filming are sponsored. Charging batteries, formatting sd card of the camera, set it all up myself in my studio.

Then I get ready listening to songs as it’s the most therapeutic time of the day! Filming takes about 1-2hours and I quickly jump to my laptop & start editing. I’m very impatient with my content & enjoy editing much more than filming. The whole day goes into post-production & managing my brother, his medications.

In the end, I like to catch up with social media, post stories & if I have some spare time- maybe go on a drive & text some friends. Each day in my life is very different so you might want to check out my vlogs for that!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You have previously talked about going through body shaming, Tips for girls who go through the same on social media

Ms. Aditi Shrestha:

Body shaming is something I’ve been facing ever since. I can remember, with my channel growing & reaching newer people the shaming has increased a lot too. What hurts the most is when relatives & immediate family judge you for putting on weight or losing too much weight.

People are never satisfied with who you are and what you’re going to become but what matters is how you see yourself & none of it will matter if you’ll love the flawed & imperfect you! If nothing else works, just delete the nasty comment, block the person & move on with your life because imagine how sad it is for a person to have nothing better to do than sit behind a keyboard & pass judgment on YOUR body? VERY sad.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

If not YouTube what career would you like to be into and why

Ms. Aditi Shrestha:

I’ve studied video editing & animation so probably a career in media where I get to edit or manage social media for someone as their manager. Sounds like a fun job!

Ms.Namita Nayyar:

Your daily skincare routine. Favorite skincare brands you swear by

Ms.Aditi Shrestha:

Laneige, Innisfree, Mamaerth – my stack is full of these brands. I’ve recently started investing in korean skincare too & Cosrx is k-brand that’s helping my skin so much. I’ve been keeping busy these days so the only skincare routine I manage to follow is cleanse, moisturise & apply a blemish balm. And yes! Masking once a week

Ms.Namita Nayyar:

Fitness routine you follow in the quarantine period

Ms.Aditi Shrestha:

Yoga, like I said my mom is after my life to keep up with meditation & yoga in the morning as soon as I wake up, apart from that I’m trying to change my diet & eating habits gradually, some of which includes having fiber-rich diet & adding protein instead if an all carb meal. For some reason, I hate drinking water so I put some lemon/ tulsi leaves in it so I can keep sipping it throughout the day & keep myself hydrated. That’s all for now.
