Roadies Fame Pooja Sharma On Physical & Mental Fitness!

Pooja Sharma, seen on Roadies Real Heroes, is a fighter in real life. Her transformation journey is inspiring, but it’s the story behind it that will motivate you to break the shackles and come out strong. Here’s one such story that will motivate you.

It’s not about a body type. Pooja emphasizes her journey as she says, “If you guys wondering why ‘Flab to fab’. Flabtofab doesn’t mean that I shaped my body a certain way and that made me fab. There are so many times I sat in the corner and cried, felt like dying. But you know what inside me there was always a voice “why you have to kill yourself because of someone’s mistakes?

Check out Pooja Sharma in conversation with WF President, Ms. Namita Nayyar on her journey, weight loss secrets & mental health

Ms. Namita Nayyar

Pooja, you are a nutritionist,  Fitness fanatic, tell us now that you look back on what according to you has played a pivotal role in your journey.

Ms. Pooja Sharma

I belong to a very average middle-class Indian family. Growing up I faced a lot of body shaming episodes to an extent that I used to hold myself from doing a lot of things I loved. It surprises me now that the teachers who were supposed to be morale boosters were also part of this. As a kid who got bullied in school, faced sexual abuse and no one was there to tell what is happening why it is happening. Anyhow I just thought maybe if I change my body it can change things for me, honestly, I don’t know why I started all I knew that I felt very good during my morning walks for which I used to get up at 4AM so that no one is there to judge.

You have been part of Roadies, how was your experience on the show also what made you think of doing it

Ms. Pooja Sharma

Roadies was an amazing journey. It was my childhood dream but I am going to share a very different story “something which I loved so much, I went into depression after it for 2 years”,.It was a very difficult phase, all my life I thought nothing can affect me. And I realized I wasn’t able to handle the environment, I felt that I failed, I felt ashamed, I felt I shouldn’t have shared my abuse story because people had different reactions. Females from neighboring countries reached out to me and shared their stories and that’s what I wanted. But then I realized that a few noises from the outside world were able to question my purpose. For many days I didn’t step out of the house, tried to distract myself in multiple ways during this time I connected to a lot of women and their stories and realized I have a lot more to do. The show was eye-opening.

Your expert input on crash diets, veganism, and keto diets?

Ms. Pooja Sharma

Each diet has its own merits and demerits. I started working on a lot of different approaches lately. I believe one must know what is actually their goal and what they like. I would like to use the famous song “Jo dil se lage use keh do hay hay, jo dil na lage use keh do bye bye”

That’s what I would like to say.

Ms. Namita Nayyar

Share input on your daily diet routine? How do you like to kick start your day. 5 Foods you love to feast on

Ms. Pooja Sharma

I and Gaurabh go for a late workout session due to work commitments, so we sleep late too. I wake up around 8-9 AM.

My boys my “furbabies” are my first duty I take them for play and walk sessions so this way I and them get their first dose of “sunlight” and “movement” for the brain.” Sunlight & Movement(walk)” plays a very important role to make you awake and alert even to set your biological clock. Days I am too tired then I take them on a scooter ride.

Locking my phone away, technology is good but it’s important to know it can make or create you the way you use it.

Journal writing, very important to know what actually you are doing. warna pata nahi kab din dhal jaye 😉 it’s like a report card for each day.

Ms. Namita Nayyar

Do you think weight acceptance and lack of body positivity are still an issue?

Ms. Pooja Sharma

When we say body positive it’s beyond the hashtag, I believe one must know what they want. Body positivity is about I am happy with who I am and I am me, I know what I want. Also giving what my body needs 🙂 Rest there are different types of people in the world and different choices.

Ms. Namita Nayyar

You always promote diets based on Indian food and palate, your ideology behind it? Also your thoughts on “weight loss” foods like quinoa, avocado, and kale?

Ms.Bhumika Gurung

)We are so much focused on good or bad diets and I know each diet there will be vowing, because it matches their goal and lifestyle. So what’s your lifestyle, people are different and so is their lifestyle. I would say just like how you choose shoes for your type and size, then even your diet you should. It was my ego saying loudly only desi. I still love desi as it suits best for me and Indian lifestyle, but if you love other types that should be your choice. Let me give you an example from my house, me and Gaurabh follow different diets as per our goals and choice, and we respect that.

Ms. Namita Nayyar

How important do you think is good diet is essential for glowing skin? Foods one should avoid to get combat skin aging

Ms. Pooja Sharma

My definition of a good diet is one that you can enjoy without putting yourself in conflict, there is a difference between craving and conflict. I know I love desi, so I don’t get confused about trying any other diet. I also know craving is a habit of eating, so I don’t keep what I crave for and keep what I need to eat.

“Happy mind, good food, sunlight, water well you are made of this, you will get good and glow” then additional things you can always do, but understand foundation.

Food to avoid ?

Anything which is abundant, even if it’s your favorite healthy food. Our brain thinks more about what you don’t so let’s work on what we like rather? and it will be easy, you know what you want 🙂 and rest it depends on your goal, there is no superpower or magic pill. But “conflict” personality leads to failure. Lemme tell you food is an addiction and you can get out of it.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Lastly, your message for Women Fitness India readers, on how important is to be mentally and physically fit in these tough times? Your views on the website womenfitness.org

Ms. Pooja Sharma

I would like to say, ladies, there are many times we behave a certain way. Find out if it is an addiction, or your behavior is the result of past experiences. There are a lot of people who develop stressful eating habits due to childhood trauma. It can be physical, mental, or sexual. See your pattern, address that behavior, accept and work on your inner child. I recently got to know about my pattern, behavior and started addressing my behavior. Escaping is not a solution, address, accept and heal. Your power is beyond this, I wish I had a magic stick. But I am sending positive vibes 🙂 Speak to someone or write to yourself.

Thank you for providing me with this platform to share my journey with my sisters, Fitness is a tribe, and thank you women fitness magazine for bringing this tribe together”
