In a world that celebrates strength in numbers and discipline in routine, celebrity fitness trainer and bestselling author Bhavna Harchandrai reveals a softer, deeply personal narrative—one where motherhood is defined not by grand gestures, but by quiet moments of connection, resilience, and unconditional love.

Bhavna pours her heart out to Women Fitness team on the occasion of Mother’s Day…
Mother’s Day is often associated with flowers and gifts. In your view, how would a mother truly like to be celebrated?
The most meaningful celebrations, for me, are the ones that come straight from the heart. I remember a Mother’s Day when my son gifted me a hand-drawn card—a vivid illustration of a dragon breathing fire. He wrote, “Mom, you are strong and fierce like a dragon, but also beautiful, fearless, and protective like one.” It was his pure, unfiltered perception of me, and nothing could have felt more special.
What makes you feel most seen, heard, and appreciated as a mother?
It’s in the everyday moments. My son is my anchor—my confidant, my strength. When he shares the details of his day, calls to check on me, or simply waits for me to return home, it creates a quiet reassurance. And the simple ritual of ending every conversation with “I love you” holds more meaning than words can express.
If you could design your perfect Mother’s Day, how would it unfold?
One of my most cherished memories is a Mother’s Day spent in London. We began with a simple breakfast together, followed by long, unhurried walks through the city—laughing, talking, rediscovering each other in between. We stopped at charming cafés like Pret and EL&N, but what truly stayed with me was the feeling of presence. Ultimately, it’s not about where you are—it’s about being fully there for each other.

What is one emotion you wish your family understood better about being a mother?
Motherhood, at its core, is the experience of unconditional love—of giving endlessly, of being needed, and of finding purpose in nurturing. It’s a quiet, constant force that often goes unspoken, yet defines everything.
How do you balance your health and fitness routine with motherhood?
Balance, for me, is built on structure. I segment my day into one-hour intervals, allowing me to move seamlessly between my roles. My mornings begin with my son, followed by training sessions and professional commitments. Afternoons are dedicated to home responsibilities, while evenings bring me back to my son—his studies, his stories, his world. Later, I return to my sessions and make time for my own workout, even when exhaustion sets in. Like most mothers, I am constantly coordinating, adapting, and holding everything together behind the scenes.
How do you plan to celebrate Mother’s Day this year?
I would cherish something simple—a quiet family meal, meaningful conversation, and, if I’m lucky, another heartfelt handmade card.
What would you like your child to learn about valuing and celebrating mothers?
More than anything, I hope he grows into someone who is emotionally present—someone who understands the importance of being there, especially in the later chapters of life. That kind of presence is the greatest gift.
If you could ask for one non-material gift this Mother’s Day, what would it be?
I would want my son to embrace responsibility—to participate in household chores and learn essential life skills. It builds character, instills discipline, and nurtures humility—qualities that are invaluable in today’s world.
Complete this sentence: “I feel most celebrated as a mother when…”
…I am loved in the simplest, most sincere ways. A warm hug, a handwritten note, time spent over board games or coffee—these are the moments that matter. I still hold close the memory of a pair of sports leggings he once surprised me with, along with a small bouquet of roses from a roadside florist, both bought with his saved pocket money. That quiet thoughtfulness moved me to tears—it was love in its purest form.
