With innumerable festivities taking part in the Indian society, fasting is an important part in many of these festivals like Navratri, karwachauth etc.
It has been observed that most women tend to kick off with fasting without going into the depth of whether they are fit for the same and its consequence on their health.
Consult your doctor
Karwa Chauth fast does not allow you to even take water during the day. This might lead to dehydration, further causing a lot of physical discomforts. Secondly, your baby needs his/her daily dose of nutrition. Especially in case of pregnant & diabetic women.
Opt for Healthy Options on the fasting day
Eat you sargi properly when you begin with the fast as its going to last for the whole day. It is that meal which women have early in the morning before the fast begins. Try and having nuts (almond, raisins, cashews etc) and milk products. Eating foods rich in protein will keep you full for a longer period. Avoid consuming sugary or fatty foods that will make you feel hungry sooner.
Do not over-exert your mind and body
Avoid mental & physical exertion as it might leave you exhausted. If you are a working woman avoid stress in the office and if you are home maker keep the schedule light to conserve your energy for the whole day.
Keep Yourself Preoccupied
Keep yourself busy throughout the day & if you have a sedentary work environment, there is no harm going for work. Squeeze in a long nap in the afternoon. Apply beautiful mehendi to enjoy the moment and relax. Look forward to getting ready for the evening puja and try to be as chirpy and bright as possible.
Avoid Strenuous Exercise
You can practice deep breathing exercises and meditation but keep intense workout at bay. This again will help you cope with thirst and exhaustion.
Enjoy the day to the best as its your day for celebration and a way to detox. Some women might complain dizziness, nausea, acidity etc. If you experience these things, do not get scared. But, if you feel that you are getting sick and cannot take it any longer, do not be stringent and eat something. After all, your health comes first.
