Few people have the courage to leave behind a thriving corporate career, financial security, and a
luxurious lifestyle to follow a calling that offers no guarantees. Sandra Lavie Gojković did exactly that. Trading boardrooms in Switzerland for classrooms in rural India, she chose a life devoted to education, women’s empowerment, child protection, animal welfare, and conscious travel. Sandra now divides her time between Switzerland—where she continues to work to fund her humanitarian initiatives and remains actively involved in animal welfare- and India, where she is deeply committed to education, women’s empowerment, child protection and conscious travel.

She goes on to add, “I have a psychology background from university, and I also help/coach women overcome self-doubt, limiting beliefs, and the mental and emotional blocks that keep them from creating the life they want.”
In this inspiring conversation with Namita Nayyar, President of Women Fitness, Sandra reflects on the childhood experiences that shaped her purpose, the transformative power of education, the meaning of true success, and why kindness remains humanity’s greatest strength.
From the outside, leaving a successful corporate career and a life of luxury may appear like a single bold decision, but for Sandra, the journey began much earlier. She recalls that the desire to help others had been with her since childhood. One memory remains especially vivid—while travelling with her parents, she gave her boots to a homeless girl because she couldn’t understand why she had more than someone else. Those early questions about inequality stayed with her throughout her corporate years. Even as she enjoyed professional success, her attention was never on the glamour around her. Instead, she found herself thinking about the cleaners, domestic workers, and people struggling to survive despite working tirelessly. Although she has since learned that it’s possible to enjoy a comfortable life without guilt, she
believes that giving back has become an inseparable part of who she is.
Walking away from financial security required courage, but Sandra says the confidence came from trusting an inner voice that had always guided her. She believes that deep down, people usually know what truly fulfills them. Looking back, she has never regretted following her heart. Every uncertainty, she says, ultimately brought her closer to a life filled with purpose and meaning.
When Sandra first arrived in India, she encountered countless children whose futures were limited simply because they lacked access to education. Among the many stories that have stayed with her are two boys who once spent their days wandering around their village without direction or opportunity. After receiving an education, their remarkable intelligence emerged. Today, both have completed high school and pursued higher education. For Sandra, their journey is a powerful reminder that education is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty and create lasting change.

While many people credit Sandra with transforming the lives of these children, she believes the transformation has been mutual. Being with them, she says, quiets the noise of the outside world. Their love is unconditional—they are happy simply because they are together, not because of anything material she can provide. In a world where adult relationships are often shaped by expectations and transactions, children have reminded her that genuine human connection is built on kindness, presence, and simply showing up for one another.
Her understanding of success has changed completely over the years. Sandra no longer measures
achievement through wealth or possessions. Instead, success means building meaningful relationships, nurturing a connection with something greater than oneself, and appreciating life’s blessings without becoming attached to them. She believes material success can certainly bring happiness, but only temporarily. Lasting fulfilment comes through gratitude, balance, and sharing one’s blessings with others.

Although her work spans education, women’s empowerment, child protection, and animal welfare, Sandra sees one value connecting everything she does—compassion. Whether it’s helping a child, supporting a woman, protecting an animal, or respecting the smallest forms of life, she believes every living being deserves kindness. Her passion for travel has also evolved into a commitment to conscious tourism, where she chooses experiences that benefit local communities, protect wildlife, and preserve the environment. For Sandra, luxury and compassion are not opposites—they can exist beautifully together.
Asked to complete the sentence, “The happiest version of me is…” Sandra doesn’t hesitate. The happiest version of herself, she says, is in India—either spending time with the children involved in her projects or sitting quietly in a national park surrounded by nature. Those simple moments of presence, where she can observe, listen, and appreciate the world around her, are where she finds genuine happiness.

Despite the emotional demands of her work, Sandra prioritises her own wellbeing through simple but meaningful daily practices. Every morning begins with meditation, helping her remain grounded before the day unfolds. She follows a vegan lifestyle, enjoys discovering exceptional vegan cuisine, and makes time every day to walk in nature. These quiet rituals strengthen her physically, emotionally, and spiritually while reconnecting her with herself.
Among all her daily habits, gratitude has become the one practice that keeps her centred no matter where she is in the world. She believes life’s greatest blessings are often found in the smallest moments that people are too busy to notice.

As Women Fitness celebrates 27 years of inspiring women across the globe, Sandra offers a message that perfectly reflects her philosophy of life. She encourages women to trust their hearts rather than be limited by the opinions of others. Most importantly, she reminds us that changing the world doesn’t require extraordinary achievements. Real transformation begins with simple acts of kindness—loving one’s family, helping a neighbour, rescuing an animal, planting a tree, or listening to someone who needs to be heard. If every person made just one life a little better, she believes, together we could create a far more compassionate world.
Sandra Lavie Gojković’s story is a powerful reminder that the greatest measure of success is not the wealth we accumulate, but the lives we touch. By choosing purpose over prestige, she has demonstrated that compassion, when lived every day, has the power to transform not only communities but also ourselves.
